MCI Calculator
A simple Excel tool for working out how circular a product is, from the co-developer of the Material Circularity Indicator.

What it does
You enter: up to 20 components (weight, quantity, material type); where each one comes from (virgin, recycled, reused, remanufactured or biological); product lifetime or intensity of use against a benchmark; and what happens at end of life (collection, reuse, recycling, composting, energy recovery or landfill).
You get: an MCI score for each component and for the whole product.
Know its limits
This tool uses the original 2015 methodology with the 2019 biological-materials update, so scores are on the old 0–1 scale, not %MCI.
The default recycled contents and recycling rates are indicative. Replace them with your own data where you have it.
It’s for learning, design comparisons and early screening. It isn’t an independent assessment, and the results shouldn’t be used on their own to support a published claim.
